【Aim】

This course provides basic knowledge on ultrasonic technologies. Most of the hours are devoted to understand the piezoelectric transducers and vibration system. An electrical equivalent circuit model for the transducer is presented after the review of basic theory of elastic waves in solids. Determination of the circuit constants is explained through the electrical measurements and the vibration instrumentation. Various kinds of industrial applications of high power ultrasonic waves are introduced.

【Schedule】
  1. History and basic concept of ultrasonic technologies
  2. Mechanics of elastic body; basic theory of vibrations of solid body
  3. Wave equations for elastic waves in solid body
  4. Vibration modes and their eigen frequencies
  5. Piezoelectricity and its application to ultrasonic technology
  6. Electrical equivalent circuit of piezoelectric transducers
  7. Configurations of piezoelectric transducers
  8. Measurements and evaluation of the transducers
  9. Transformation of vibration displacement amplitude using horns
